In November 2024,SmartMat(Intelligent Materials), an academic journal hosted by Tianjin University, was awarded funding under Phase II of China’s Excellence Action Plan for Scientific Journals. The five-year project provides annual funding of RMB 500,000, totaling RMB 2.5 million.
Launched by multiple national agencies, the plan promotes the development of top-tier scientific journals to support China's innovation-driven strategy.SmartMatwas previously included in the plan's high-starting-point category in 2021. Led by Editor-in-Chief Professor Wenping Hu, the journal achieved an initial Impact Factor of 20.4, placing it in the top 10% of Chemistry and Materials Science journals globally.
Tianjin University now hosts nine SCI/ESCI-indexed English-language journals, covering fields such as engineering, chemistry, and materials science. These journals have published over 3,000 high-quality papers and organized nearly 300 academic activities.
The university's Journal Center continues to enhance journal quality, attract international talent, and align with major scientific trends, contributing to the institution’s global academic influence and supporting national development strategies.
